We went back to the school again in January for the start of the school year, it was great to see all the kids again. Zandie gave us a list of essential equipment and supplies for the new year.
Thanks to your generosity we were able to re-stock the school with all sorts of things they just wouldn’t have been able to have. We even bought cleaning supplies . We can’t stretch our funds to pay for cleaners so guess who keeps the school clean ? Yep it’s the KIDS!
Books, stationary and some toys were very popular with the prechoolers; a microscope and science equipment will help the older kids do more advanced lessons.
It’s surprised us what was on the Zandie’s wish list; who would have thought a brushcutter would be so important. The grounds really need to be kept clear as snakes are quite common. We have organised a friend to clear the school grounds regularly so the children have a safe place to play.
We took cordial and biscuits for recess one morning, the kids were so excited, but the day we took lollipops! WOW
The children are always so happy to see us and we find it so rewarding to be able to do some much for them (with YOUR HELP OF COURSE) – hopefully we’ll be able to get back at the end of this year. Everyone in the community in lockdown due to Coronavirus, and the school has been closed so there is no doubt they will need more help.
After much thought and discussion with Zandie, we have decided that , for now, the funds will go to make sure the community has enough food during this scary time.
A couple of bags of maize meal (their staple food) goes a long way, and we can rest knowing they have at least one meal each day.
As soon as the Covid-19 crisis is over we will reassess and get back on track supporting the school.
In the meantime we have a number of new beanies for sale in our shop.
