100% of every dollar donated to Cottlands Community School goes directly to the school. None of the money either from donations or profits from sales of goods is used for administration or other expenses.
Pene and John administer the funds and co ordinate with the school principal. Susan donates time to maintain the website, and our volunteers buy yarn and knit the beanies and toys for sale. 100% of the profits from the books Pene & John wrote are donated to the school.
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we can transfer money onto a travel card which Zandile (school principal) can access in South Africa. Each month we charge the travel card with wages money and, after discussion, money for incidentals.
We are aiming to pay the staff a little more in the way of wages as presently they are on a bare minimum. A basic wage for a worker in the area is $75 AUD a week we would like to pay the staff at least this amount.
