Furniture, Sports and Breakfast 2023
Our lastest trip in Sept this year lasted 2 whole months. What a whirlwind!
So much is still needed at the school but we ticked quite a few boxes!
We finally got our approval and registration for the Pre-School as a Non Profit Organisation, which means all donations are now tax deductible in Australia.
We have employed a teacher, Pretty, to look after and teach the Pre-school children for the past 5years from ages 2yr to 5yrs. We are trying to get her registered into a Bachelor of Teaching so she can be paid by the Education Department, she is a qualified teacher of kindergarten children but this is not recognized by the Education Department as a payable position.
A great help to the village families as there is little else in the way of childcare which has a huge impact on working parents.
We spent up big!
Thanks to all our generous donors and to everyone who has purchased goods at our fund raisers.
We were able to buy desks and chairs for the teachers.
Up until now they have had to sit on oil cans (!) or use the child size chairs and desks.
6mths worth of breakfasts for the pre-school children. This is ongoing as Pretty contacts us and we transfer enough money to her account for another 6mths or until we get back to replenish the cupboard.
(our young grandkids donate some of their pocket money for this).
Thanks Kids xx
Other equipment include:
2 First Aid kits with extra supplies, including snake bite kits, there is little local medical care and kids being kids,
there is always some accident happening.
Various sports equipment balls, basketball hoops, hoola hoops – this really excited the kids.
The water supply is very unreliable so we paid for the water tanks to be filled. There were gutters installed by local work men but they do not connect to the rain water tanks – a job for our next visit.
Various maintenance around the school, supplies to bat proof the kindergarten building.
Finally we were able to lay vinyl tiles in the pre-school.
Ceramic tiles in teachers’ room and veranda were very welcome especially as it makes cleaning so much easier.
An added bonus being a local tiler was employed so our money served two purposes.
Even mundane items such as stationery are an expense the school cannot afford, so some of our donations are used here too.
Thank you everyone for your support.
Together we are making a real difference to the lives of these gorgeous kids and their families.
Our next goal is to raise enough cash to host a Birthday Party once a year and to give every child a small present. For some it will be the only gift they receive.
